Renew your Salvadoran DUI online from the US: $55 with delivery
Salvadorans living in the United States can renew or replace their DUI entirely online, without going to a consulate, according to an RNPN announcement published August 14, 2026. El Salvador’s National Registry of Natural Persons (RNPN) announced on August 14, 2026 that the procedure is done at dui.sv, from a mobile phone or tablet, for US$55, which covers the document and home delivery by DUI Express (announcement checked October 3, 2026). At a consulate the DUI still costs US$35, and at locations without immediate delivery you can add DUI Express for US$20 more, with delivery within a maximum of 15 days.
This page focuses on the online channel and DUI Express. For the in-person DUI at the consulate — appointments, fee, and what the DUI is and is not — see the DUI at Salvadoran consulates.
Three ways to get the DUI from the US

Renewing or replacing the DUI online
What the RNPN announcement of August 14, 2026 says:
- Who: “Salvadorans residing in the United States.”
- Which procedures: renew or replace the DUI “entirely online through dui.sv.”
- With what: from a mobile phone or tablet.
- Cost: US$55, “which includes the value of the document and shipping through DUI Express to receive it directly at the address indicated by the citizen.”
- During the process: you can update some personal details, such as your home address, and take the photo that will appear on the new document.
On dui.sv/exterior, the entry point is the “Tramita tu DUI en línea” (process your DUI online) button; the same menu has “Paga tu DUI” (pay), “DUI Express” and “Haz tu cita” (book an appointment).
What we could not confirm: the online application that button opens is a web app whose eligibility rules we could not read. The RNPN announcement mentions renewal and replacement, and says some personal details, such as the home address, can be updated during the process; it does not mention a first-time DUI or say which other details can be changed online. If your case is anything other than a renewal or replacement, confirm with the RNPN or the consulate.
Step by step (online channel)
- Go to dui.sv/exterior from a phone or tablet and choose “Tramita tu DUI en línea.”
- Follow the renewal or replacement process; update your address if it changed.
- Take the photo within the same process.
- Pay US$55, which covers the document and shipping.
- Wait for delivery by DUI Express at the address you provided.
DUI Express: home delivery of a DUI processed at the consulate
The dui.sv DUI Express page says:
- “Receive your DUI at home within a maximum of 15 days.”
- It carries an extra cost of US$20.00, “in addition to the DUI issuance cost.”
- It is available in the United States and Spain, “at consulates that do not have immediate delivery.”
Its published steps: (1) book the appointment at the nearest consulate; (2) attend the consulate in person for the DUI; (3) ask at the consulate for delivery by home shipping; (4) wait for the delivery. If you forgot to request shipping at the consulate, the same page lets you request home delivery online afterward.
Consulates that print the DUI the same day
In an announcement published August 14, 2026, the RNPN said that, together with the Foreign Ministry, it had launched on-site DUI printing at the consulates in:
- Chicago, Illinois
- Aurora, Colorado
- Charlotte, North Carolina
- Springdale, Arkansas
- Doral, Florida
At those locations the DUI is issued the same day as the appointment. The RNPN added that its network abroad has 24 service centers, of which 18 will have on-site printing by the end of 2026, and that it runs mobile service days and identity fairs. In the same announcement, the RNPN notes that a valid DUI lets Salvadorans identify themselves legally, sign contracts, grant powers and permissions, and vote from abroad. Locations announced earlier are on our page about the DUI at consulates.
Consulate requirements: dui.sv versus the Foreign Ministry
If you end up doing the procedure in person, the dui.sv (RNPN) requirements page says:
- Renewal: the DUI must be expired or about to expire; you pay US$35 or the local-currency equivalent where you do the procedure.
- Replacement: you pay US$35 or the equivalent. The Foreign Ministry’s page (published 2020) adds that a replacement requires signing a sworn statement about the loss.
- Marital status and “conocido por” (name known by): per dui.sv, no birth certificate is needed, because the RNPN holds the information in its registry; it asks that marital status be registered in the civil registry first. The Foreign Ministry’s 2020 page instead asks for a birth certificate annotated with the change. The two sources differ; this page follows dui.sv, the RNPN’s own site for the procedure, and we suggest confirming with the RNPN.
If your marital-status change comes from a marriage celebrated in the US, see register a US marriage in El Salvador.
Appointments and contact
The Foreign Ministry’s DUI-abroad page (published October 28, 2020) says requesting a DUI appointment online is free. dui.sv publishes the call center 1-888-301-1130 and WhatsApp 7070 1071, plus a link to the appointment portal. To check availability by consulate, use the consulate appointment tracker; to find your location, see El Salvador consulates in the US or by state.
