Honduran birth certificate from the US: the RNP MOVIL app and DNI
Honduran birth certificates (acta or partida de nacimiento) are issued by the Registro Nacional de las Personas (RNP), Honduras’s civil registry. The digital channel the RNP publishes is its RNP MOVIL app (developer “RNP HN”), which according to its listing lets citizens “tramitar y obtener actas de nacimiento con tan solo escanear su documento de identidad” — request and obtain birth certificates just by scanning their ID. No official page checked on October 3, 2026 publishes a fee for the certificate, so confirm with the RNP before paying anyone. The key condition: the app is built for people who have the new DNI (Nueva DNI).

The RNP MOVIL app
The App Store listing (in the US store) introduces the app as “Solicitud de actas de nacimiento con la Nueva DNI” and says its purpose is to make it unnecessary to go to RNP offices. According to that listing, citizens can use the app to:
- Request and obtain birth certificates by scanning their identity document, and store the certificate on their device.
- Check for inconsistencies in the registry database and request their correction.
- Validate that birth and death certificates do not contain altered data.
On Google Play, the same app (identifier info.rnphn.sin_rnp) is described as “Sistema de Identificación Nacional (SIN)”, meant to resolve inconsistencies in a citizen’s registration and civil registry data. The listing shows a last update of October 1, 2026. The listings use two names, “RNP MOVIL” and “SIN RNP”, for the same RNP app.
What the listings do not say: whether the app works the same way from outside Honduras, what someone without the new DNI should do, how long the certificate takes, or whether it has a fee. The App Store listing marks the download as free; that refers to installing the app.
Steps per the app listing
- Install RNP MOVIL from developer RNP HN, using the links on the APP RNP page of rnp.hn (this avoids third-party apps with similar names).
- Have your DNI ready.
- Scan your identity document in the app and request the certificate.
- Save the certificate on your phone.
- If the app shows an inconsistency, use the correction option or the formal rectificación (below).
The consular route
The SRECI FAQ checked on October 16, 2026 does not list a birth-certificate issuance service or its requirements or fee. Find your office in the Honduras consulate directory and ask before you go.
What it may be requested for
- Passport at a consulate: INM lists an original, recently issued birth certificate for applicants under 21. For applicants over 21, the Honduran embassy in the United States lists appointment confirmation, a valid Honduran identity card or proof of DNI enrollment, and a current or expired Honduran passport booklet. See Honduras passport renewal.
- Use with a US recipient: if you are asked for an apostilled certificate, SRECI states that it handles authentications, apostilles and translation approvals in Honduras. See apostille Honduran documents.
- Immigrant visa: the RNP says the US National Visa Center asks for the copia de folio, a different document. See copia de folio.
If the certificate has an error
The RNP publishes the rectificación (correction) requirements:
- A folio copy of the birth registration, countersigned by the Municipal Civil Registrar and recently dated.
- Documents depending on the error:
- Error in the registered person’s maternal or paternal surname (apellido materno o paterno): the birth certificate of the father or mother.
- Error in the day, month or year of birth: a document proving it, such as the birth report or baptism certificate; if needed, the case is referred to Forensic Medicine.
- Error in the parents’ names or nationality: their birth certificates.
- If the registration shows alteration, the folio copy from the copy book (libro copiador) is requested to verify the original data.
Children born in the US
The RNP says children born abroad to a Honduran mother or father can be registered before diplomatic or consular agents. That process is in register a US-born child. US birth certificates come from the state: see vital records by state.
Your US immigration status
The app listing describes the Honduran identity document as the requirement. It does not mention any US immigration documents.
