Honduras criminal record certificate from the US: L 200, card payment

Honduras’s Constancia de Antecedentes Penales (criminal record certificate) is issued by the Judiciary’s Unidad Nacional de Antecedentes Penales (UNAP), attached to the Centro Electrónico de Documentación e Información Judicial (CEDIJ). From the United States you request it on the Judiciary’s online payment system, which charges L 200.00 for the certificate and L 200.00 for the authentication for use abroad, by Visa or MasterCard (fees published by the Judiciary, checked October 3, 2026). The documents are downloaded as PDFs with a QR code. The thing to check before paying: registration asks for a residential address in Honduras.

What it is and who issues it

According to the Judiciary, the UNAP runs the national criminal record system with data on people convicted by final judgment, and issues the Constancia de Antecedentes Penales “en forma exclusiva” (exclusively). The own-name instructions say the certificate shows whether or not a criminal record exists and includes the holder’s names, ID or passport number, date of birth and current address.

It is a Honduran record. Your US history is a separate process: see FBI background check.

Step by step on the portal

The portal opens from the Judiciary’s homepage, under “Solicitud y Pagos en Línea: Auténticas y Antecedentes Penales”. Its guide describes eight steps:

  1. Applicant registration: names, surnames, ID number, date of birth, sex, email, phone and residential address in Honduras. Double-check the email: the confirmation goes there.
  2. Identification: upload a face photo, the front of your identity document and the back (“solo para identidad” — only for the national ID card). JPG, JPEG or PNG, maximum 5 MB per image.
  3. Payment type: “Constancia de Antecedentes Penales - L 200.00” and “Auténtica Antecendente Penal para el Extranjero - L 200.00” (spelled that way on the portal). Choosing “Auténticas” adds both services.
  4. Validation: the system checks the fields and images and compares your data with the RNP (Registro Nacional de las Personas, the civil registry).
  5. Payment: you are redirected to the bank’s secure page. Do not close or reload the browser.
  6. Result: the payment shows as APROBADO (approved), PENDIENTE (being verified) or RECHAZADO (declined).
  7. Email: you receive the confirmation, the list of documents and a direct link. Check your spam folder too.
  8. Download: under “Documentos Generados” you will find the certificate (PDF with QR code), the authentication certificate (PDF with QR code) and the payment receipt.

Requirements the Judiciary publishes

From the UNAP requirements document (2024) and the own-name instructions:

  • Be over 18.
  • National identity document (DNI). The own-name instructions mention a copy of the ID card or birth certificate for Hondurans.
  • Through a representative: a duly authenticated power of attorney letter (carta poder). If a relative within the fourth degree of consanguinity or second degree of affinity files, a document proving the relationship and the applicant’s authorization. On the earlier platform, a lawyer acting as representative also uploaded a current Colegio de Abogados card.

Fees by purpose in the UNAP documents

The UNAP PDFs publish a table by purpose of the request:

Certificate typeFee
For studyL 50.00
For work and for marriageL 150.00
For other uses and for use abroadL 200.00
Senior citizensFree
Under 25Free “únicamente cuando es para efectos de trabajo” (only for employment)
People with disabilities who present a valid card issued by the competent public authorityFree, and usable “para todo trámite” (for any procedure), per the 2024 requirements sheet

The online portal checked on October 3, 2026 shows only the L 200.00 certificate and the authentication for abroad; the portal pages we captured do not describe how it handles these free categories.

The earlier route: Banco Atlántida and the SOL platform

The Judiciary’s PDFs (the requirements file carries “2024” in its name; the online-steps file is undated) describe a different payment method: “Banco Atlántida, es la única entidad bancaria autorizada” (the only authorized bank) and “No usar recibos TGR1” (do not use TGR1 receipts). They also pointed to the earlier SOL platform and gave a turnaround of 1 business day when all attached documents were correct. The current portal, linked from the Judiciary’s homepage, takes Visa or MasterCard and publishes no turnaround. This guide follows the current portal.

For guidance, the PDFs list the email solicitudenlineaap@poderjudicial.gob.hn and the National Criminal Records Coordination phones (504) 2240-3244 / 2240-3330, Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Apostille for use in the US

The Judiciary’s portal does not describe the apostille. The rule comes from SRECI: a document is first authenticated by the institution that issued it, then apostilled. The portal’s authentication for abroad covers the first part; the SRECI apostille is requested online. Details in apostille Honduran documents. Exactly what a US recipient requires is set by that recipient.

Police record: a different document

Police record (antecedentes policiales, Secretaría de Seguridad). Issued by the Dirección Policial de Investigaciones (DPI), not the Judiciary. Per the National Police requirements PDF (stored in the police site’s February 2024 uploads folder): you generate a TGR-1 receipt to the Secretaría de Seguridad (#70), rubro 12121, for L 200 (checked October 3, 2026); pay it at authorized bank branches; and appear at the DPI’s facilities with a copy of your DNI and the paid TGR-1, writing your email or phone on the documents. The certificate is sent as a PDF. People aged 18 to 24 requesting it to apply for a job pay nothing. The PDF says nothing about requesting it from abroad or through a representative.

Your US immigration status

The requirements the Judiciary publishes are Honduran data and documents (identity, photo, Honduran address). They do not include any US immigration documents.
