Red flags of predatory ITIN lenders:

  • Interest rate above 18-25% APR (legitimate ITIN mortgages: 6-12%)
  • “Pre-approval guaranteed” without checking credit
  • Pressure to sign without reading
  • Hidden fees: origination 5-10%, prepayment penalty, balloon payments
  • “Cash advance” loans with fees > principal in 12 months
  • Bank requires Power of Attorney over your assets
  • “Buy here pay here” car dealers with 100%+ APR
