USCIS processing times at this office
USCIS publishes these times for the Houston office. Each figure is, per USCIS, the time it took to complete 80% of adjudicated cases in that category at this office over the last six months; the "comparison" column counts, among the field offices with a figure for the same category in our data read from that tool, how many show a shorter time. Our data may not include every office USCIS publishes.
| Form | Category | 80% of cases within | Receipt date for a case inquiry | Comparison |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| I-485 | Family-based adjustment applications | 18 months | October 17 2023 | 54 of 90 offices shorter |

Source: USCIS Check Case Processing Times tool, read October 3, 2026. USCIS explains that the inquiry date is calculated from the time it takes to complete 93% of cases: if your case was received before the date shown, USCIS lets you submit a case inquiry (USCIS explanation).
Area the Houston office serves
USCIS assigns every ZIP code to one field office. These are the counties where at least one ZIP code goes to the Houston office, with how many of that county's ZIP codes it gets. A county can be split between offices: your ZIP code is what counts, and USCIS says it may move some application work to other field offices, so follow the office named on your notice.

Asylum office for this area
USCIS assigns affirmative asylum cases to an asylum office, also by ZIP code. Go to the location on your interview notice. For the ZIP codes of the Houston office, USCIS's file lists:
- Houston Asylum Office (16855 Northchase Drive, Second Floor, Houston, TX 77060) — 531 ZIP codes
Other offices in the Dallas district
- Oklahoma City — 3101 Technology Drive, Edmond, OK 73013

Cases at the Houston office: April–June 2026 (USCIS fiscal year 2026, third quarter)
Under its Immigration and Citizenship Data, USCIS publishes, by field office, how many Form N-400, I-485 and I-130 cases were received, approved, denied and pending. These are the figures its files give for the Houston office (code HOU):
| Form | Received | Approved | Denied | Pending on June 30, 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| N-400, naturalization (all) | 5,545 | 4,441 | 437 | 31,057 |
| I-485, green card through adjustment of status (all) | 8,243 | 2,148 | 421 | 57,601 |
| — of which family-based | 3,300 | 1,722 | 370 | 15,182 |
| — of which humanitarian-based (asylee, refugee, Indochinese and Cuban refugee) | 1,678 | 24 | 10 | 34,665 |
| I-130, petition for a relative (all) | 6,485 | 2,124 | 327 | 91,830 |
| — of which immediate relatives of U.S. citizens | 5,048 | 2,048 | 316 | 29,859 |
- Pending naturalization (N-400): rank 1 of 90 field offices (1 = the most pending among those 90 field offices; tied offices share a rank).
- Pending adjustment of status (I-485): rank 1 of 90 field offices (1 = the most pending among those 90 field offices; tied offices share a rank).
- Pending relative petitions (I-130): rank 1 of 90 field offices (1 = the most pending among those 90 field offices; tied offices share a rank).
"D" means USCIS does not publish that figure ("Disclosure standards not met"). Per USCIS's notes, some cases approved, denied or pending may have been received in earlier reporting periods; "pending" means awaiting a decision at the end of the quarter, and the report does not reflect some actions, such as administrative closures and transfers between offices. USCIS also notes that the office location does not reflect the complete area covered by the office's jurisdiction, that the figures are the most up-to-date estimate available when its database is queried, and that counts may differ from previous periods due to system updates and post-adjudicative outcomes. The N-400 file's heading prints "April 1, 2025 - June 30, 2026", but its file and sheet names identify fiscal year 2026, third quarter, the same period (April 1 - June 30, 2026) the I-485 and I-130 files print. The rank is our own count from the same figures. Sources: USCIS files for N-400, I-485 and I-130, published under Immigration and Citizenship Data; read October 17, 2026.
Before you go: what USCIS says
- Appointment only. USCIS states that its field offices do not allow walk-ins and that you must have an appointment to visit an office. Your interview or appointment notice gives the address that counts for your visit.
- What a field office does. Per USCIS: interviews for all non-asylum cases (for example, getting a Green Card), naturalization ceremonies, and appointments for information and applicant services that supplement its website and phone help.
- Closures. USCIS says offices may close because of inclement weather or unexpected events and encourages checking its Office Closings page before traveling.
- Lawyers in person. Effective May 18, 2026, USCIS no longer permits attorneys and accredited representatives to participate remotely in field office interviews, except in limited circumstances.
- Payments. USCIS says it does not allow people to come to a field office to make a payment; for the forms it accepts payment on at field offices, payment is mailed with Form G-1450 (card) or G-1650 (bank account); if you qualify for a paper fee payment exemption, USCIS says you may pay by check by filing Form G-1651. The exception it names is emergency advance parole (Form I-131, EAP): call the Contact Center for an appointment.
- Fingerprints (biometrics). Taken at an Application Support Center (ASC) when USCIS schedules them. USCIS sends the appointment notice by mail or to your online account; wait for it before visiting.
How to request or change an appointment
- Field office appointment: USCIS offers an online appointment request from its field offices page, or call the USCIS Contact Center at 800-375-5283 (TTY 800-767-1833).
- Reschedule biometrics: USCIS’s biometrics page says the request must be made through your USCIS online account (not by mail), at least 12 hours before the appointment, and must establish good cause. It says to call the USCIS Contact Center at 800-375-5283 (TTY 800-767-1833) if the request is less than 12 hours from the appointment time, if you missed the appointment, or if you have problems making the request in your online account. If you do not request it before the appointment or do not establish good cause, USCIS says it may consider your case abandoned and may deny it.
- If you moved: update your address with USCIS — see change of address. Your field office depends on your ZIP code.
Application Support Centers (biometrics) for this office’s ZIP codes
Fingerprints, photos and signatures are taken at an Application Support Center (ASC). USCIS’s field-office-by-ZIP file (dated August 28, 2026) also names an ASC for each ZIP code. For the ZIP codes it assigns to the Houston Field Office, the file lists four ASCs, ordered here from the most of this office’s ZIP codes to the fewest:
- Application Support Center - Houston NW, TX (address, hours and ZIP codes): USCIS Application Support Center, 13155 Northwest Freeway, Houston, TX 77040. Hours on its USCIS page: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; closed Saturday and Sunday. Military personnel are served 9:00AM to 3:00PM, Monday through Friday, without an appointment.
- Application Support Center - Houston SE, TX (address, hours and ZIP codes): USCIS Application Support Center, 8505 Gulf Freeway, Suite A, Houston, TX 77017. Hours on its USCIS page: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; closed Saturday and Sunday. Military personnel are served 9:00AM to 3:00PM, Monday through Friday, without an appointment.
- Application Support Center - Houston SW, TX (address, hours and ZIP codes): USCIS Application Support Center, 9440 Highway 6 South, Sugar Land, TX 77083. Hours on its USCIS page: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; closed Saturday and Sunday. Military personnel are served 8:00AM to 4:00PM, Monday through Friday, without an appointment.
- Application Support Center - Austin, TX (address, hours and ZIP codes): USCIS Application Support Center, Parkline Plaza Shopping Center, 11301 Lakeline Boulevard, Suite 150, Austin, TX 78717. Hours on its USCIS page: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; closed Saturday and Sunday. Military personnel are served 9:00AM to 3:00PM, Monday through Friday, without an appointment.
Your appointment notice is what counts: each ASC’s USCIS page says applicants need to appear at the assigned ASC on the appointment notice, and USCIS’s biometrics page says an appointment at a different ASC without rescheduling will not be processed. ASC pages checked October 15, 2026; the full list is on USCIS’s Application Support Centers page.
