Frequently asked questions

What is USCIS?
US Citizenship and Immigration Services is the federal agency that handles legal immigration benefits — green cards, work permits, naturalization, asylum, and the forms behind them. It is part of the Department of Homeland Security.
How do I check my USCIS case status?
Use the receipt number from your notice at egov.uscis.gov/casestatus, or create a free USCIS online account to see updates and messages. The receipt number starts with three letters followed by numbers.
How do I find the right USCIS form?
Every form has its own page at uscis.gov with instructions, the current fee, and where to file. Start from the ‘All Forms’ index and match the form to your specific benefit, or get help from an accredited representative.
How much do USCIS forms cost?
Fees vary by form and change with the USCIS fee schedule; some forms have fee waivers for low-income applicants. Always confirm the current fee on the specific form’s page at uscis.gov before paying.
