⚠️ OBBBA change effective 2026-05-29
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R.1, Public Law 119-21) creates a new $24 immigration fee on Form I-102 filings, layered on top of the existing Form I-102 filing fee.

|---|---|---|
| I-94 retrieval from i94.cbp.dhs.gov | Free | Free (unchanged) |

When to use which option
1. Just need a copy of your current I-94?
Use the CBP I-94 lookup at i94.cbp.dhs.gov. Enter your name, date of birth, passport number, and country of citizenship. Print the resulting record. This is free and immediate.
This works for most travelers who entered the US by air or sea since 2013. Travelers who entered by land at certain ports may also retrieve their electronic I-94 this way after a system update.
2. CBP made an error on your I-94?
The first stop is the CBP Deferred Inspection office at the nearest international airport. Bring your passport, visa, ticket, and any supporting documents. Deferred Inspection can correct CBP-side errors in the entry record — wrong class of admission, wrong admit-until date, missing entry — without a USCIS filing.
Locator: cbp.gov/contact/ports. Walk-in or scheduled appointment depending on the office.
3. Your paper I-94 was lost, stolen, mutilated, or destroyed?
File Form I-102 with USCIS. As of 2026-05-29, the total cost is:
- Standard Form I-102 filing fee (check current USCIS fee schedule)
- + $24 immigration fee (new, not waivable, required by H.R.1)
- Biometrics fee (if required by case type)
Mail to the USCIS Lockbox listed on the current Form I-102 instructions. The lockbox address has changed historically — always verify on the USCIS Form I-102 page on the day you mail.
4. Need a replacement Form I-94W (visa waiver)?
Form I-102 also handles I-94W replacements. The same $24 OBBBA immigration fee applies.
Why your I-94 matters
The I-94 — not the visa stamp in your passport — is the operational record of your current status. Employers running E-Verify or completing Form I-9 employment eligibility verification rely on the I-94. State DMVs verifying lawful presence for a driver’s license use the I-94. USCIS adjudicating later petitions verifies your prior status via the I-94 record. The Social Security Administration uses the I-94 to determine SSN eligibility.
If your I-94 shows a different class of admission or a different expiration date than you expect, resolve the discrepancy immediately — before you apply for a benefit that depends on your status.
Required documents for Form I-102
- Form I-102 (signed)
- Copy of any prior I-94 you still have
- Copy of the biographical page of your passport
- Copy of your most recent US visa (if applicable)
- Photographs (per current USCIS I-102 instructions)
- Police report (if I-94 was stolen)
- Filing fee + the $24 OBBBA immigration fee
Common scenarios
- My I-94 expired and I’m filing for extension/change of status: file Form I-539 (not I-102). The pending I-539 itself does not require an I-94 replacement.
- My I-94 shows class B-2 but my visa is B-1/B-2: visit CBP Deferred Inspection first.
- My I-94 admit-until date is wrong: CBP Deferred Inspection first; if they cannot fix it, then Form I-102.
- I am a TPS, asylum, or adjustment applicant with no I-94: USCIS may issue an I-94 with an approval. Check your most recent USCIS notice. If you have an approval notice with an I-94 on the bottom, that is your I-94.
